The Concept of Faith

Welcome back to Imagine Money, a short daily lesson to help us all think better so we can live better. This week we’re reading the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.

Last time we discussed planning for success. Today, we are looking at the concept of Faith; belief in realizing your desire.

Here is how Hill describes it, “Faith is the “eternal elixir” which gives life, power, and action to the impulse of thought!”.

He tells the story of Charles M. Schwab, who at 38 helped negotiate the secret sale of Carnegie Steel to a group of New York financiers and became the first President of the United States Steel Corporation.

His idea and the Faith in conveying it to J.P. Morgan and others created a giant, powerful and prosperous company that employed thousands of people, opened new markets, and earned him great riches. A dramatic story of a desire and Faith that was transmuted into reality.

How can we develop Faith? According to Hill, Faith is a state of mind that you can develop through repeating self-suggestions and affirmations.

Begin by believing in yourself and your goal, as Faith is the starting point for all success and wealth and a known antidote for failure. This continued belief is the extra element that transforms your thoughts and propels you into action and success.

“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King Jr.

Thoughts mixed with positive emotions create a ‘magnetic’ force and propels a person towards fulfilling desire.

Reading the ‘Desire’ statement daily, as if you already have your financial goal, is a way to induce your mind to believe that it is attainable. There is much power in stating your intentions aloud.

It is important to encourage positive emotion as the dominating thoughts in your mind. Fill yourself with positive feelings, and it will produce the Faith you are seeking.

Thought guides action, according to William James, and if you don’t believe in yourself and your ability to succeed, you won’t do what it takes. Strong self-belief supports higher levels of resilience. So, if you think you’ll succeed, you will have control over your thoughts, feelings, and actions. And what transpires is you will apply effort and persistence and achieve what you set out to!

The power of Faith created miracles in the lives of many throughout history. Take a few minutes after this lesson to think of how you can allow for Faith in yourself and your ability to do great things. This power is within you, perhaps asleep, but you can awaken yourself to self-belief, Faith, and achievements.

That’s all for today. Until next time, keep imagining what’s possible.
