Planning For Success

Welcome back to Imagine Money, a short daily lesson to help us all think better so we can live better. This week we’re being inspired by the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Last time we talked about Desire. Today, we’re looking at Organized Planning, the Crystallization of Desire into Action.

We learned that anything you can create begins with desire, and you decided on your goal/s at the end of the last lesson.

Here is what Hill writes “Intelligent planning is essential for success in any undertaking designed to accumulate wealth… and if your first plan fails - try another”.

Having a burning desire for certain success, income, or money in the bank, is the beginning. It is now time to create a definite plan and take action.

How does one build a practical plan?

Hill writes that the knowledge of your desire, what you will give, and the exact date for its accomplishment, will move you into ‘the workshop of imagination’, where plans are created and organized.

A major part of the definite plan is to have a Master Mind group to meet with regularly to support the creation and the carrying out of your plan

And if the first plan you created does not work, Hill suggests replacing it with an alternative plan, and if this alternative plan doesn’t work, replace it with another, and so on and so on. Setbacks are common, but the successful person is the one who does not give up and doesn’t let temporary setbacks derail him, and all setbacks are temporary on the way to fulfillment.

No person is ever ‘whipped’ until he/she quits in their own mind, so don’t give up before the miracle!

Hill tells the story of James J. Hill of the Great Northern Railway, who met with temporary defeat when he first tried to raise capital to build a railroad from East to West, but he created new meticulous plans and turned defeat into victory. He amassed great wealth and became a philanthropist.

The writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery wrote: “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

You have gone beyond wishing; you have a desire, and a definite plan, you can take small incremental steps towards the accomplishment of your desire.

S.M.A.R.T. goals will keep you on track:

  1. Specific. A clear, specific endpoint.

  2. Measurable. A way to track your progress.

  3. Attainable. A goal that is possible for you to meet by the date you have on your plan.

  4. Relevant. It relates to the goal of your most ardent desire.

  5. Time-Bound. Set the time frame for fulfilling your goal, to help you focus.

Take a moment and write your S.M.A.R.T goals today and begin with taking one small action towards your desire.

That’s all for today. Until next time, keep imagining what’s possible.
